The Invocation is the 9th chapter of the Main Quest, given and completed in Egypt (Act II) and following The Blindness of the Gods. The chapter starts when the hero brings the Scroll of Invocation (obtained from the Rhakotis Library) to Imhotep in Memphis Plaza.
Imhotep will study the scroll only to learn, that two additional artifacts are needed to perform the Ceremony of Invocation, which would allow the people to communicate with the gods again. These artifacts are the Hand of Balance and the Eye of Chaos.
The Hand of Balance must be retrieved in Giza, from The Great Sphinx. It is protected by the Pharaoh's Honor Guards, four large statues. Each statue seems to be made out of sandstone and sits still on the special pedestal. Close to each pedestal there is a Canopic Shrine dedicated to one of the four Egyptian gods. When the hero approaches the Shrine it activates and occasionally summons hostile Desecrated Dead ~ Tainted Revenant. When destroyed, the Shrine releases a Disembodied Spirit which immediately possesses nearby Pharaoh's Honor Guard and makes it come to life and attack the hero. The battle ends when all four Honor Guards are defeated.
The Eye of Chaos can be found in the Temple of Atum, located to the north-east of the Fayum Oasis. It is guarded by Nehebkau ~ Scorpos King, a Scorpos hero.
Having obtained both artifacts the hero must return to Imhotep in Memphis. Imhotep will try to perform the Ceremony of Invocation, but fail to do so. However, the Gate to Thebes will open, completing this chapter. Then the next chapter starts, A Telkine in Egypt.
Bugs[]
- Attempting to complete the quest with just one artifact will make Imhotep tell the hero to go and find the other one. It is possible for the quest to break when handing in the Eye and Hand, being told to bring "the other" item. Dropping both artifacts on the ground is enough to resolve this, with the quest resuming once the items have been collected again.
- Anniversary Edition. The Eye of Chaos will not drop if the game speed is higher than "normal". If this happens, restarting the game on normal speed should resolve this issue.
