Lernean Hydra

The Hydra is a child of Typhon and multi-headed Reptilian boss that you encounter on Legendary Difficulty, in the Athens Marsh. This can be a very challenging boss, due to its very high health and powerful attacks, but with some preparation it can also be very simple.

Resistances[]

As a boss monster it is immune to Controls and almost immune to percent health and energy damage.

Abilities[]

The Hydra has multiple powerful attacks, most of which can kill you instantly if your resistances are low. Its default attack is not that powerful, but it can be problematic, as it is very hard to distinguish from his poison bite. It also has three breath attacks that are extremely powerful.

  • Fire Breath - Deals Burn Damage over 3 seconds.
  • Frost Breath - Deals Frostburn Damage over 6 seconds, although it also slows by 85% total speed for 6 seconds.
  • Poison Breath - The strongest of the Hydra's breath attacks. It deals Poison Damage during 8 seconds, reduces your resistance and instantly lowers your health by a percentage (27 to 31% depending on your level).
  • Super Bite - This attack is very dangerous, as it can and will kill you unless resistances are high. Does high Physical and Pierce Damage and strong Poison Damage over 2 seconds.

Strategy[]

Important Resistances

The most important thing to know about the Hydra is how it uses its attacks. First, it will never use breath attacks if you are in melee range or close by, so even if you have a pet to go up and tank it for you, keep your hero close to the Hydra, as he may decide to target the hero, and the breaths have a massive range. When in close range, be sure to watch out for his Poison Bite attack, as it is hard to tell apart from the normal attack. The attack animation for when he is preparing to do the Poison Bite is slower than that of his normal attack, so keep an eye out for it.

A good pet comes in very handy in this fight. A pet such as a Core Dweller, Liche King, Nightmare, or Storm Wisp can easily tank the Hydra. However, if you don't have one of the above pets, or if you can't summon pets, then max out Poison and Fire resistance. This should allow you to withstand the fire and poison attacks fairly easily. If you have 80% on both resistances, then you should be able to tank this boss and win.
